Valluvar koattam is situated in chennai ( South India ). In chennai it is in nungambakkam area.Its considered to be one of the best known places in the metro.Many protest again governments,private concerns happen near to this . It's a good place to visit and many people visit this than any other as one of the reason may be its very cheap , the entry tickets. ( Rs 3per person on 2013 ). The image below shows you the entrance and you have to pass through the stairs to get inisde but before that you need to get the tickets from outside.
It has a big park but not suitable for children as only lawns are present there with some trees for you to sit below the shadows.In this image below you can see people sitting in the lawn and the construction which appears is the entrance that you saw in the image above.
After you have crossed the park area the building which you see below is the entrance of a big hall in which you can take rest if it is free as most of the times some exhibitions and functions will take part in that hall.
Above the hall is the terrace and you can have the view of the chariot which is used mostly in temples.Mostly no one visits this part of the building as it doesn't have shelter for the visitors to sit or just pass the time.
This chariot in tamil called thaer is used in temples to carry the idol during festives. Usually it is built using wood but here its made of cement concrete to symbolize tamilnadu's culture. The fourwheels, the architecture,The deity inside the chariot and a curvy top gives it a traditional look.
A full view of the chariot can be seen in the image below.It has the height equal to three floors and is massive , gigantic and splendid with the wheels in the bottom, place for the idol in the middle and the curvy top.It was diificult for me to take this panaromic shot but I managed to take this to provide you my visitors to have a complete look at the structure.Usually people will try to pull this chariot as pulling it to the temple with the lord inside it is a holy job for the people,so many one interestingly take part in pulling this structure.
Thats all you have in valluvar koattam. You can reach to it from koyambedu through autos and local buses like 27C,27M,37G,37D.
Eventhough its not that entertaining ,its a better place to visit.
