In this post we are going to see about a mini zoo which is located in the vellore district of Tamilnadu state, India.

This zoo is located at about 25 kms from the vellore.Vellore is located in south India.This zoo is on the base of the amithri forest.It has few animals and birds.It will take about 1-2 hrs to take a full visit of the entire creatures present in the zoo.

After taking a turn from the vellore-tiruvannamalai state highways take a right turn and head for amirthi.On the way you will be able to see this gate crossing in a place called kaniyambadi.Its about 12km from vellore , the place kaniyambadi which is a small village where you wont be having any attractive refreshment stalls.

After travelling some km from kaniyambadi you need to take right from a diversion to reach amirthi and you will able to see this huge stand alone rock from the bridge which is above the river beneath.

This is the sample image of the amirthi forest which you can see after crossing the toll of the forest department.This forest holds 4th place among the forests which is present in Tamilnadu in terms of land sharing.

The following animals are present in the zoo.

Marsh crocodile 
Scientific Name :  Crocodylus Palustris
Habitat : In habit rivers,lakes and other large bodies of water.In the plants and upto 600mts in the hills throughout India.
Habit : Foods largely on water insects,snakes,frogs and fish they can catch.

Common Peafowl 
Scientific Name : Poro cristatus
Habitat : Dense scrub,deciduous jungle plain and foot hill throughout India , Ceylon & Bangladesh
Habit : Excessively shy and alert . Roost at night in large trees.Feeds on grains,vegetables shoots,lizards,insects and snakes.





Chital
Scientific Name : Axis Axis
Habitat : Chital lives in beautiful area with forest,glades and shaded streams in India.This is found all over India.This is most beautiful of all deer.
Habit : This feeds on grass,leaves and wild fruits.

Pelican
Scientific Name : Pelecanus Philippensis
This is a large squat water bird with short stout legs large webbed feet and enormous heavy flattened bill under hung throughout its length by an elastic bag of full purplish skin. They fish by co-operative effort and fly like a floating ship.




Indian Rock Python
Scientific Name : Python Molorus
Its a pyhton snake which is present all over India in the Jungles and rain forests.Its length extends from 3 - 6 mts. It reproduces during may -june season and it lays upto 100 eggs.Currently it is in the list of endangered species.
